Congratulations to the following teams for their most recent discoveries:
The Psychosocial team explored whether animated educational videos can help parents and patients (>12 years) better understand what precision medicine involves. Luminesce Alliance supported the development and evaluation of a series of three animated videos with families and patients. View the videos | Download the paper
The Psychosocial team also explored Data Sharing, Biopsies and Patient Confidentiality in a Precision Medicine Trial for Childhood Cancer. Findings revealed broad support for key trial procedures, including data and sample sharing, additional biopsies, and use of identifiable data. Parents’ trust in researchers, hope for benefit and altruism were strong motivators, while oncologists and scientists highlighted the importance of clear consent, balancing risks and benefits and protecting confidentiality. The Advanced Genome and Transcriptome Analytics project team’s series of three papers identifies splice altering variants and whether a variant in a key gene contributes to the disease. This can be a decisive factor in diagnosis and treatment, particularly in cancer and rare genetic diseases.
The Translational Biology project team discovered that the CRISPR-Cas13 system can be reprogrammed to target mutant transcripts with single-base precision, showcasing the tremendous potential of this tool in (precision medicine) personalized transcriptome editing. Read more
