Kids Link

Linking and translating health datasets to identify disease causes, assess treatment effectiveness, and determine optimal clinical interventions.

The Kids Link project is part of the Data Enabling Platform which harnesses data linkage by sourcing clinical, genomic, and administrative health, treatment, and observational datasets to identify disease determinants, assess treatment effectiveness, and inform the most effective clinical interventions and therapies. This enhances precision medicine in NSW.

Kids Link is interconnected with the other Luminesce Alliance Data Enabling Platform projects below to create a comprehensive research data ecosystem for NSW, driving forward paediatric precision medicine initiatives.

  • Advanced Genome and Transcriptome Analytics Enabling Platform: Develop an advanced molecular profiling analysis platform with novel methods and evaluate whether these improve the rates of diagnosis and treatment recommendations in cancer and rare diseases.
  • Advanced Clinical Data Analytics Enabling Platform: Accessing, extracting, and interpreting clinical electronic medical records and administrative data, currently locked within hospital records to expedite diagnoses, improve treatment recommendations, enhance clinical management of patients
  • Data are collected about us all through our lives – including every time we see a doctor or go to hospital when we go to school or work, and information about the environment in which we live.

Combining various administrative, health, and clinical data collected throughout children’s lives provides a powerful tool to understand the impact of various childhood conditions, including treatment outcomes to provide more tailored and better care.

The Kids Link Data Enabling Platform focuses on such datasets and combines them with genomic and clinical treatment information to understand the immediate and long-term impacts of the treatment of childhood diseases. This offers valuable insights at both population and individual levels, on how we might need to modify treatment to ensure improved outcomes in children.

  • Our Kids Link Data Enabling Platform will aim to:

    • Predict risk to enhance prevention and early diagnosis through a better understanding of known and novel clinical electronic medical record data, environmental, lifestyle, perinatal, and genetic risk factors associated with disease.
    • Strengthen our health system through advanced data linkage, enabling health economics and evaluation of precision medicine interventions and development of clinical decision support tools.
    • Support psychosocial work by harnessing clinical data to better understand patient outcomes and systematically evaluate the patient population.
